For football fans and players alike, relegation can often bring out a man’s emotional side.
And for one footballer, coming to terms with the drop was clearly too much to bare.
Not even his daughter’s attempts to console him helped as he laid back on the pitch with his with his head in his hands.
De Graafschap captain Rogier Meijer had collapsed on the field after the final whistle, following his side’s play-off against FC Den Bosch.
The result which meant that De Graafschap would be playing outside the Dutch first division, had left skipper Meijer devastated.
The 30-year-old was seen weeping as his little girl trotted onto the field to place an arm over his shoulder.
However that failed to raise his spirits and he soon fell backwards, clearly troubled by the prospect of life in the lower leagues.
