Thanks to YouTube — and a class project about Michael Jackson — this little girl not only has a new hobby, but she’s actually mastered it.
Adilyn Malcolm, a talented 12-year-old girl, didn’t have a textbook or teacher to help her pursue her newfound interest in dubstep. She simply had access to the Internet. She searched online “How to dubstep” and ingeniously watched, stopped, and rewound various dance videos until she perfected one move at a time.
While some may wonder how someone — let alone a child — could wind up with such amazing skills after only a few months and without previous experience or formal instruction, Adilyn says that YouTube gave her something that a traditional dance class wouldn’t.
“If you’re on the Internet, you can really learn and teach yourself — it benefits you because you can watch everything over and over again, but in a classroom you can’t do that,” Adilyn said. “Honestly, because I learned this whole thing from the Internet and the Internet is my generation’s tool to learning these things, I think I can show people that you can do anything if you really have a passion for it.”
